On April 29, 1945, the U.S. Seventh Army's 45th Infantry Division liberated Dachau. A major Dachau sub camp was liberated the same day by the 42nd Rainbow Division. American forces liberated Dachau and found more than 30 coal cars. American forces found more than 30,000 prisoners in the camp and many of the prisoners that were liberated from dachas died because they were either sick or to skinny to move.
